INTACH History

The history of INTACH outlines the development made by it since its inception. A brief overview of the various significant development and events that led to the making and growth of INTACH over the years is outlined here:

1984 INTACH is established as a Registered Society

On January 27, 1984 INTACH is establish as a Registered Society

1985 Chapters across the country

INTACH set up 31 Chapters across the country

March: Rs 01 Crore (the first instalment of the corpus of Crore) is released to INTACH by the Government and invested with SAIL

1986 INTACH logo is finalized and registered

Logo is based on the anthropomorphic copper figure from Shahabad U.P. (circa 1800-1700 BC)

Conservation Plan of Varanasi Heritage Zone under Ganga Action Plan

1989 Conservation Plan of Ekamra Kshetra

Conservation Plan of Ekamra Kshetra (old Bhubaneswar Heritage Zone) is prepared

1991 Conservation Plan for Ujjain Heritage Zone

Conservation Plan for Ujjain Heritage Zone is prepared

1992-3 The construction of the New Headquarters building initiated

The INTACH Central Office and other divisions at Delhi shift from 71, Lodhi Estate, to the Bharatiyam Complex in Nizamuddin to enable the construction of the New Headquarters building

2000 INTACH Environmental Award

Anirudh Bhargava – INTACH Environmental Award instituted for exemplary contribution to the protection of Environment / Natural Heritage

2003 Chapters Guidelines

Guidelines for Chapters to function as per INTACH mandate published

2007 INTACH gets ECOSOC special consultative status

United Nations Economic & Social Council grant INTACH special consultative status

2008 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government of Delhi

INTACH signs MoU with Government of Delhi to nominate Delhi as a UNESCO World Heritage City

2009 INTACH Pupul Jayakar Award and Memorial lecture

INTACH Pupul Jayakar Award and memorial lecture is delivered on World Heritage Day (18th April) for remembering her contribution to the preservation and promotion of India’s Heritage

2011 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government of Jharkhand

INTACH signs MoU with Government of Jharkhand for the conservation and Development works at 29 sites in the State. Under the 13th Finance Commission Grant

2012 Convenors Orientation Programme

Annual event for new Convener & Co-Convener programme launched for orienting the convenors which coincide with the Annual General Meeting (AGM)

INTACH CTCB
INTACH Centre for Conservation Training and Capacity Building established. This was aimed at training and capacity building in the field of conservation

2013 Revised Chapters Guidelines

Comprehensive Revised Chapters Guidelines incorporating procedures to be carried out by Chapter i.e. activities, financial, taxation, legal aspects & listing Proforma’s was printed

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government of Odisha
MoU with Government of Odisha for restoration and preservation of some important monuments to be taken up from 13th Finance Commission Grant

INTACH is recognized as Centre of Excellence
INTACH recognized as a Centre of Excellence and bestowed a corpus of a 100 Crores, by the Finance Minister, Government of India

2014 INTACH UK Trust dissolved

INTACH UK Trust in England is dissolved and funds transferred to INTACH

INTACH Heritage Academy
INTACH Centre for Conservation Training and Capacity Building is renamed as “INTACH Heritage Academy (Training – Research – Capacity Building)

INTACH Membership and fees revised
INTACH recognized as a Centre of Excellence and bestowed a corpus of a 100 Crores, by the Finance Minister, Government of India
