INTACH Indian Conservation
Institute, Lucknow
INTACH Indian Conservation Institute was established at
Lucknow in 1985 as a unit of INTACH with the efforts of
the present Director General, ICCI, Dr.O.P.Agrawal, who
was then working as the Director of the National Research
Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC) at
Lucknow. Dr. O.P.Agrawal, whose brainchild it was,
continued to guide its destiny as its Honorary Advisor and
took great pains in developing it into a full-fledged well
equipped conservation institute carrying out conservation
of all types of heritage objects, and also imparting
training in various aspects of conservation. Mrs.Usha
Agrawal joined it in 1986 as Programme Supervisor and
became its Director (Programmes) in 1991. After retiring
from NRLC in 1989, Dr. Agrawal also joined the Institute
as its full time Director General. Its phenomenal success
in the fields of survey, documentation, conservation,
training, publications, etc. paved the way for the
establishment of a network of ten such institutes and a
Manuscripts Survey Cell, in different parts of the country
in just about a decade.
